The team gave back to the local community by participating in Samaritan’s Feet — an organization that aims to provide hope by giving them new shoes.

Players interacted with the children, asking them questions about their lives while washing their feet, and send them off with a new pair of shoes.

“I want to have an impact 10 years, 20 years, 30 years from now,” Calipari said of the importance of the experience.

“Many of the players I’m going to coach are going to come across fame and fortune. What do you do with it? Do you make your life about yourself and how much you can grab, or do you make your life about everybody else?”

Incoming freshman Karl Towns, Jr. realized the lesson immediately.

As the day wore on, the team ran out of socks to give away. He reportedly took off his own pair of size-20 socks and put them on a young child.
