Speaking on a resolution moved by Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government is committed to promote sports and it would take all steps to improve infrastructure facilities.

The team would be accorded a civic reception here on April 6 which would be observed as victory day, he said.

Steps would be taken to ensure the protection of sports grounds in the state, Vijayan said.

Sports Minister A V Moideen said the government would take a decision on the cash award to be given to the team at the next cabinet meet.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the victory would herald a new sports era in football in the state.

Kerala edged out Bengal via tie-breaker 4-2 after they were locked 2-2 at full time in the final held at Kolkata on Sunday.

The state was winning the title for the sixth time but after a gap of 14 years
